At Pawformance, our dogs are at the heart of everything we do. While they excel in performance sports and in the show ring, they are pets first and their wellbeing is the most important thing to us.
We believe in having a close bond with each of our dogs so we make sure that they get the time and one-on-one contact they need to thrive. For this reason, we will only ever have a small number of dogs at home - Shell currently has two (Squiggle and Slinky) and Nik has three (Ahsoka, Dexter and Solo).
Each of our dogs trains in a different set of performance sports. Our dogs absolutely love having a "job" and we love building a working relationship with them.
While some breeders have older dogs, or those who have not proven successful in the show ring available for adoption as adults, this is not something we do. It is a privilege to have an older dog and we love being able to spoil them in their later years. They deserve it!
How we keep our dogs
It's very important to us that our dogs are included as part of the family - they're given access to the house and yard and can often be found napping on the couch or playing in the backyard. While we used to call ourselves "Pawformance Kennels", we have never, and will never keep our dogs in a kennel environment. Kennels have been found to be detrimental to a pet dog's mental state so we don't believe they're a suitable way to keep pet dogs.
We train and handle our own dogs in the ring, are hands-on with the conditioning exercises they need to stay in peak condition and when needed, we also participate in their injury rehabilitation. We consult with a broad range of healthcare practitioners to ensure that our dogs always get the best care.
Our dogs are fed a completely raw, balanced diet. Their meals, including the supplements they are given, are tailored to their individual needs and metabolism.
We practice cooperative care, teaching our dogs to not only accept handling but to be active participants in their own care, for every day things like grooming and nail trimming.
