The NifflerThere are very few dogs that are as joyful as Slinky is. She is fun and silly and though she often gives off the impression that she is lacking in the brains department, she more than makes up for in enthusiasm! Slinky throws herself into everything without a second thought, usually while barking excitedly.
Weirdly, Slinky can be absolutely brilliant, making massive leaps in her learning, especially when we're training a precision behaviour for one of her sports, but she's equally as likely to then go and misjudge a leap onto the couch, face planting into the side of it. There is never a dull moment with Slink around! More than anything though, Slink loves cuddling up next to me on the couch and has to sleep right by my side, making sure she is touching me at all times. Physically, Slinky is a stocky, muscular girl, compact and feminine with moderate angulation. She is quick on her feet, with great natural proprioception and ground covering movement. She is very handler focused and there is no doubt in my mind that she could fulfil her original purpose as she can, and does happily work all day when asked. |

My Dad | Zeke Fin Ch Ru Ch Lv Ch
Dagolas Naavaparta (Finland) I first saw a photo of Zeke several years ago, when he was still a young boy and thought he was one of the most handsome lappies I had ever seen. The more I learned about him and his personality, the more I fell in love.
His owner Meiju, says he is very smart - a trick expert - learning new behaviours very quickly, with lots of food drive and an active nose, while still being a peaceful and social gentleman. He loves agility, especially jumping and was quite the wild child as a puppy. Hips: C/C | Elbows: N/A | Eyes: Clear (2008) | prcd-PRA: Clear |
My Mum | SquiggleCh Neut Ch
Armahani Diamond Dansut (AI) CCD RA TK.S ADX JDX SDX SPDX GD HT ET CA WPD ONYX Squiggle is my dream come true, and from the time she was young, I started looking at the possibility to getting a puppy from one of her litters. Currently the most titled Finnish Lapphund in Australia, Squiggle is a firecracker - full of fire when we're training or competing in sports but also being soft and sweet when she squiggles in for a cuddle. She is the friend of everyone she meets, and loves children, happily rolling over for a belly rub. Her real passion in life though, is chicken nuggets.

The Nacre LitterSlinky's first litter was to the handsome American Champion Lecibsin Suoritus "Tori". Born via AI, Slinky had 4 boys and 1 girl, all black and tan. We were incredibly happy with the puppies Slinky produced and despite having no plans to take a puppy from Slinky's 1st litter, we just couldn't look past Obi-Wan so he came home with us to Sydney!
|
The Pearl LitterAfter many years of planning, quite a few set backs and a lot of stress, a single very special Pearl arrived on the 10th June. Named "Teddy" after Newt Scamander's niffler, his dad is the handsome American Champion Calaban's Johnny Come Lately "Grizz". Teddy now lives on a farm in Melbourne with his cousin Kulta and will see the show ring on occasion.

Show Ring HighlightsTitles Gained:
Australian Champion (Ch) Neuter Champion (Neut Ch) |
Though we don't see the show ring as often as we used to, Slinky loves getting into the ring. She gets very excited and finds it hard to keep all four paws on the ground when there are good snacks!
|
Agility HighlightsTitles Gained:
Snooker Dog (SD) |
Slinky is relatively new to the agility ring, having had some success early on before we turned our attention to the flyball ring throughout 2019 and early 2020. Hopefully she will be back in the agility ring soon!
|
Flyball HighlightsTitles Gained:
Flyball Dog (FD) Flyball Dog Excellent (FDX) Flyball Dog Champion (FDCh) Australian Flyball Champion (AFCh) |
While I held off on training Slinky in flyball, only really getting "serious" about it when she was 3.5 years old, she has taken to it like she does to most things in life - by throwing herself in with little thought and a lot of barking. She was easier to train than I expected, and has a gorgeous swimmer's turn on the box.
|
Herding HighlightsTitles Gained:
Herding Test (HT) |
Slinky absolutely loves herding. She has a lovely natural distance and good pressure and will go head to head with a sheep if she needs to get it out of the corner of the paddock. After attaining her HT, she is taking a break.
|
Endurance HighlightsTitles Gained:
Endurance Test (ET) |
Slinky completed her Endurance Test at 2.5 years old. As the second smallest dog in the group, she was placed towards the back of the pack but kept up beautifully, and her heart rate and temperature barely increased over the 20kms.
|
Lure Coursing HighlightsTitles Gained:
Junior Courser (JC) |
Slinky had quite a lot of success with lure coursing early on in her career, proving she could course in some very trying conditions and even earning herself a place in the CA stream under an international specialist, only beaten by associate registered sighthounds.
|
Backpacking HighlightsTitles Gained:
Working Pack Dog (WPD) |
Slinky loves long hikes with friends so it was a no brainer for us to add a backpack! We worked up to the 30% weight over several months and when the time came, she bounced her way through the 16km hikes required for her WPD title. Slinky joined her brother, Solo and Dexter to complete the first leg of her WPDX - unfortunately I'm not as fit as Slinky but hopefully we will be back out to complete her title at a later date.

Scentwork HighlightsANKC titles Gained:
Scentwork Novice (SWN) ACSW titles Gained:
|
Slinky started training in Scent Work way back in 2018 and absolutely loved it but after a break due to covid and then her two litters, she wasn't able to return to it until 2022. It her is absolute heart sport though and we love doing it with her. She's a natural!

Novice Trick Dog (NTD) Intermediate Trick Dog (ITD) Advanced Trick Dog (ATD) Expert Trick Dog (TDCh) Trick Dog Champion (TDCh) |
Slinky loves learning new tricks and so before the ANKC introduced Trick Dog Titles in early 2020, we decided to give the AKC partner, Do More With Your Dog trick dog titles a go! We having been training hard for the ANKC trick dog titles since they were announced, so hopefully we will get to give them a try soon.

Conditioning & Fitness HighlightsDMWYD titles Gained:
Conditioning & Fitness 1 (CCF1) Conditioning & Fitness 2 (CCF2) Conditioning & Fitness 3 (CCF3) Conditioning & Fitness 4 (CCF4) Conditioning & Fitness Champion (CCFCh) |
Conditioning and Fitness are things that go hand and hand with our other sports so when DO More With Your Dog (DMWYD) added a Conditioning and Fitness title stream to their titles in 2019, I knew eventually I would do them with Slinky. She breezed through them in the space of 3 weeks and just before we went to submit our CCF4, they announced the Championship! Slinky earned her Championship before the title was even officially available!
