Perfection in dog formOne of the most titled Finnish Lapphunds in the world, Squiggle is not only incredibly successful in the sports ring, with multiple first place and high in trial wins but she is also the best companion we could ever ask for.
She might be small in stature but she more than makes up for it with her big personality! From the moment Squiggle came home, she stamped herself on my life and it's now hard to remember a time when my fluffy shadow wasn't following me around the house, trying anything she can to get a cuddle. Squiggs lives for chicken nuggets, her ball and belly rubs, and loves spending her days playing flyball or hanging out at the beach, before coming home to take up as much space on my bed as possible, preferably with her head on my pillow. She is highly driven for a lappie, confident, cheeky, handler sensitive and very, very intelligent. Physically, Squiggle is a typey, petite girl, compact and beautifully feminine with lovely balance. She is quick on her feet with great rear end awareness, effortless movement and correct angulation; built to work all day while retaining the softness that the Finnish Lapphund breed is so well known for. |

My Dad | Ressi Fin Ch & Fin Working Trial Ch BH JK3 PM-05
Lecibsin Kultakuono (Finland) Handsome, cheeky and renowned for producing puppies who excel in sports, Ressi was not only very successful in the show ring but was also the first (and so far only) Finnish Lapphund to gain the Finnish Working Trial Championship, which requires a very high level of both tracking and obedience training.

My Mum | EmmiAustralian Grand Champion
Lumiturpa Emmi CCD RE JD HT (Imp Finland) About as close to my idea of perfection as possible, Emmi was one of the first Lappies in the country to have several performance titles to her name. Confident and cheeky, she was very successful in both the show and performance rings for many years, having inherited her mother's working drive and father's gorgeous looks.

The Goldstone LitterSquiggle's first litter was to the handsome Fin Ch, Ee Ch Hiidenlahden Tiko. Born via AI, Squiggle had 3 boys (2 sable and 1 black and tan) and 4 girls (2 sable, 2 black and tan). The puppies from this litter were super friendly and outgoing and are much loved by their families.

Show Ring HighlightsTitles Gained:
Australian Champion (Ch) Neuter Champion (Neut Ch) |
Squiggle never really enjoyed the show ring but had some success with multiple class in group and class in show wins, particularly in the neuter class. She has been retired from the ring for several years.
|
Obedience HighlightsTitles Gained:
Community Companion Dog (CCD) |
Squiggle was trained in obedience from the time she was a baby puppy and loved all aspects of the sport. Unfortunately, being jumped on in the ring by another dog broke her confidence for trialling but she still loves training so she no longer competes.
|
Rally-O HighlightsTitles Gained:
Rally Novice (RN) Rally Advance (RA) |
Though Squiggle hasn't been in the Rally-O ring in several years, we still regularly work on Rally-O exercises.
|
Agility HighlightsTitles Gained:
Jumping Dog (JD) Jumping Dog Excellent (JDX) Agility Dog (AD) Agility Dog Excellent (ADX) Snooker Dog (SD) Snooker Dog Excellent (SDX) Strategic Pairs Dog (SPD) Strat Pairs Dog Excellent (SPDX) Gamblers Dog (GD) |
Squiggle loved agility and was an active competitor from 2014 - 2020. Unfortunately the pandemic and a recurring iliopsoas strain cut her career short and she was retired from agility at 8 years old.
|
Flyball HighlightsTitles Gained:
Flyball Dog (FD) Flyball Dog Excellent (FDX) Flyball Dog Champion (FDCh) Australian Flyball Champion (AFCH) Flyball Master (FM) Flyball Master Excellent (FMX) Flyball Master Champion (FMCh) Flyball Master Champion - Onyx (ONYX) |
Flyball was without a doubt, Squiggle's favourite sport to compete in. She had a gorgeous box turn, can run in any position (including as start dog) and was one of the most reliable dogs around. She retired from the sport at 10 years old, as a 3-time national champion with 1400 title points.
|
Herding HighlightsTitles Gained:
Herding Test (HT) |
Herding with a non-traditional breed in Australia is always going to be interesting. Squiggle is very true to her breed with her herding style, however ANKC herding is not geared towards upright, loose eyed breeds so we moved away from the sport after gaining Squiggle's HT title.
|
Endurance HighlightsTitles Gained:
Endurance Test (ET) |
Squiggle completed her endurance test at 2 years old, just 13 weeks after the birth of her first litter. Though Squiggle had been incredibly fit before she had her litter, we consulted with our specialist vet, who couldn't believe how much condition she had maintained, and gave us the greenlight to continue with her endurance test training, given that it was only straight line movement and fitness work.
|
Lure Coursing HighlightsTitles Gained:
Junior Courser (JC) Coursing Ability (CA) |
Lure Coursing was one of Squiggle's favourite sports. After gaining her CA title in 2018, Squiggle got smart to the game and started looking for pulleys on the course to work out which way the line was going to go rather than coursing the bags. While she still got to have the occasional run after trials, she was retired from trialling at the end of the 2018 season.
|
Backpacking HighlightsTitles Gained:
Working Pack Dog (WPD) |
One of Squiggle's favourite activities is bushwalking so it was a no-brainer to begin training her to walk with a backpack on. After a few months of training with the weight slowly increasing to the full 30% of her body weight needed for WPD, Squiggle completed her title in just a couple of weekends.

Trick Dog HighlightsTitles Gained (ANKC)
Trick Dog Starters (TK.S) Titles Gained (DMWYD)
Novice Trick Dog (NTD) Intermediate Trick Dog (ITD) Advanced Trick Dog (ATD) Expert Trick Dog (ETD) Champion Trick Dog (TDCh) Register of Merit (ROM) |
Prior to the launch of the ANKC trick dog titles and given Squiggle's foundations in many other sports, we decided to give some online trick dog titles a go during our summer down time in early 2018. Squiggle nailed her training, becoming the first Finnish Lapphund in the world to gain both the Do More With Your Dog Trick Dog Champion and Register of Merit titles. Now that she has completed the DMWYD titles, we are working on her ANKC trick dog titles!

Conditioning & Fitness HighlightsDMWYD titles Gained:
Conditioning & Fitness 1 (CCF1) Conditioning & Fitness 2 (CCF2) Conditioning & Fitness 3 (CCF3) Conditioning & Fitness 4 (CCF4) Conditioning & Fitness Champion (CCFCh) |
Conditioning and Fitness are things that go hand and hand with our other sports so when DO More With Your Dog (DMWYD) added a Conditioning and Fitness title stream to their titles in 2019, I knew eventually I would do them with Squiggle. She breezed through them in the space of 3 weeks and just before we went to submit our CCF4, they announced the Championship! Squiggle earned her Championship before the title was even officially available!
|
Scentwork HighlightsTitles Gained
Trick Dog Starters (TK.S) |
Squiggle came to the sport of scent work at 12 years old to give her a way to keep her brain active and give her a job to do in her retirement.
