At flyball, Squiggle is what's known as a 6th dog - a 6th dog generally just comes into the ring during warmup to get used to the atmosphere during competition. We will look at their focus and if it's good, we might ask them to try and do a full run before we decide to give them a run as a racing dog in a heat. Due to a last minute shuffle of teams because of an injury to one of the dogs, our team went down to only having 4 racings dogs, with Squiggle as a 5th - luckily she got her head in the game early this morning in the first warmup of the day, completing a couple of full runs without even glancing at the dogs in the other lane. Flanked by Ahsoka, she went on to run 5 out of 6 races through the day, becoming a fully fledged racing dog and earning the last points she needed for her Flyball Dog Excellent (FDX) title.
The most beautiful part of the day though was seeing both of my beautiful girls running in the same team together. Soaks had an amazing day, not putting a single paw wrong for the entire comp. I am so blessed to have Soaks - she is happy to run for anyone and with me busy running Squiggle, she was passed around the team quite a lot today.
We came away having won second place in division six, with a pretty ribbon and some treats.
