We headed down to the NSW Southern District Country Border Collie Club Obedience Trial with the hope of Squiggle earning her final quallie towards her CCD but Squiggle decided to do a little better than that!
The grounds were lovely, but are raised to the level of the treeline of the surrounding bush, and unfortunately with such a windy day, dog after dog went into the ring and walked out having been disqualified. By the time CCD was to go into the ring we’d experienced all 4 seasons between rain, hot sun, and everything in between and there hadn’t been a single qualifier in more than 50 dogs!!
Squiggle was working beautifully outside of the ring but we have been having issues with her being ring smart in the last couple of months and today was no exception. The second she walked into the ring she flattened and looked very lack lustre and I assumed that she wouldn’t have enough points to get through to the next exercise but our judge, Linda Dibbin (NSW) kept letting us go onto the next exercise until we had finished our recall and she congratulated us on being the only dog so far to get through to the group stays!
With no other qualifiers, they had to find more experienced dogs to go in to the stays lineup with her, and I held my breath from the moment I left her, until I returned for both her sit and down stays. I have never been so relieved to hear a judge say “exercise finished”. Some lovely fellow triallers had stayed to watch us finish our ring runout and cheered when we finished, marking a really nice moment for us!
As the only qualifier in the trial today, Squiggle walked away as the Champion of Champions, having earned the honor of High In Trial! To make the day even better, pending Dogs NSW approval, Squiggle can now be known as Ch Armahani Diamond Dansut (AI) CCD RA JD HT ET FM!!!
